Air Cooled on the net

A screen grab of the Air-Cooled web site
Air-Cooled is a start up business who’s founder, Lee, came to us for advice about how to establish a web presence having been recommended to do so by another client, Dave at the Old Glen. It’s amazing how many of our new clients come by way of recommendation and we always see this as an indicator that we’re doing something right somewhere.
Lee, by his own admission, knows very little about the internet or what makes it work and was dissatisfied with his current web site which he had bought as part of a printing offer and which offered him very little in terms of reflecting his business. We very quickly established with Lee, that at this stage he just needed something very basic that provided a point of contact with the relevant information and that would be picked up by search engines and listed.
After a quick consultation in which we established the nature of the business and the immediate goals, Lee decided on a package which cost him under £200, and provides email and web services for 12 months and a web page with all the relevant details of the Air-Cooled services. Lee provided us with some basic graphics and a photo of his van and the whole thing was up and running in a few days.
We will measure traffic through the site and report back to Air-Cooled, who can then decide at what point they would like to invest more in the site.
This is a good example of how we encourage our clients to take things one step at a time and introduce them gently to establishing themselves on the internet. We’ve found that in this way our clients don’t become disillusioned and we are able to build a long term relationship with them.
This is good news. There’s so many people on the internet who have a offline business but don’t know how to market that business on the internet. Even something so simple as to leaving relevant contact information that a lot of people tend to leave out or just forget. A lot of people could use your help.
A lot of brick and mortar business need help to break into the internet. A lot of opportunities here
Excellent work on the aircooled site.
I approached a company to set up a site this past summer and they tried to sell me a $10,000 website that included some SEO work. I don’t doubt that they did good work but let them know upfront I wasn’t looking to spend that kind of cash.
If they had approached me up front with something like this I would have been much more likely to work with them than move on. Kudos to you all for listening to your clients.
Have you got an update for this post? I agree with everything you’ve posted here. I know in the work I do with my clients that many of them want to start out by eating the entire elephant right away, the biggest challenge is getting folks to realize you must put the entire “system” in place to establish a real presence on the Internet? Thanks. ~Jesse
This post makes a powerful point. It really seems there are a lot of “technophobes” out there who avoid making the jump to online marketing. But it seems here you made a solid case for your proposal, and your work speaks for itself. Great job guys!
Your approach of easing people into developing a web presence rather than pushing them into some big mega-site right away is a good one. Like you say, by doing so you will develop a much stronger relationship with them and they will be highly likely to come to you for all their website development needs.
